The Philippines designated 2022 as the “Year of Protected Areas” to commemorate the 90th anniversary of protected area establishment in the country. One of the world’s megadiverse countries, the Philippines is also categorized as a biodiversity hotspot and is significantly impacted by climate change. Climate Tracker Asia fellows from Eastern Samar have developed a reporting series that focuses on the role of protected areas in combating climate change, highlighting their importance and impact.
