“Puck You !”Science Theatre workshops provide a low threshold opportunity for audiences of all ages to to tackle the climate crisis intellectually and emotionally at the same time. By using the characters from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” the workshops offer an opportunity to take a look at the challenges of climate change by using powerful techniques from theatre and improv theatre.
A quick introduction to the most important plot lines of Shakespeare’s play presents a foundation: a youth without prospects, a bunch of middle-class craftsmen who don’t feel sufficiently appreciated and an aloof elite. They all meet in the mythical forest populated by the elves, representing nature. Inspired by the different characters in the play the participants are invited to choose their roles: this can be the “ruling class”, the “rebellious youth” or the middle class “craftsmen”. The individual groups organize themselves as teams for about 10 minutes, with some hints by the actors and the scientists. All three groups develop points and arguments dear and important to their characters. In an open and inspired setting they reenact the most urgent social dialogue of our time: how can we connect and collaborate to fight the climate crisis?
