Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture (PLACA)
A regional mechanism for voluntary collaboration that seeks to promote and strengthen exchanges between countries to enhance inter-institutional exchanges on climate action in agriculture, livestock, food security and climate change

The Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture, is a voluntary initiative launched in Madrid, Spain, on December 5, 2019, during the 25th Conference of the Parties (COP25) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). PLACA is at the service of LAC countries and seeks to coordinate and enhance pre-existing collaboration mechanisms, including components that promote collective action, the participation of different actors at different scales and interaction with decision-makers in order to generate the enabling conditions to promote the implementation of climate actions in agricultural territories.
One of the fundamental pillars of PLACA are the Thematic Working Groups. This community of practice promotes a collaborative and interdisciplinary regional ecosystem with a common goal: to help all countries to standardize methodologies, and share experiences related to agriculture and climate change. The four working groups are: Adaptation and Mitigation, Public Policies, Knowledge Transfer and Good Practices and Research, Development and Technological Innovation. The Platform began its activities in the years marked by the Covid-19 Pandemic, but it has now consolidated its position as a space for exchange that currently has 16 member countries and 6 asociated institutions.
Through PLACA, a community of practice has been established in the LAC region on agriculture and climate change. This space for collaboration and added value focuses on key issues whose objectives are to support the strengthening of the capacities of ministries of agriculture, promote exchange networks and support the dialogue on public policies linked to climate change in the agricultural sector to advance towards common objectives, always considering the particularities and priorities of each country.
